If you have been keeping abreast of the recent trends, you would have already discovered that there is a lot to gain from the database field in recent times. It seems that there is now much money to make from learning database. The reason for this of course is the internet, if you look well enough, you will find that there are now job websites that give you the chance of making cash as a database personnel, for instance as a database Administrator or a Database developer. I know that you might have had your ears pricked up, and you are probably wondering where the right place to get these skills are. In fact, this is the major problem of some people who have had the dream to become database professionals: they have no idea how to go about it. However, this article is going o walk you through your choices, which are basically three: certification, vocational school and college.

Certification might prove to be a real help in some cases. In some cases, certification might prove to be all you need to get it right, or it might not be the total package, but it sure does help! The aim of certification is the demonstration of the knowledge of the subject for which you are certified. For instance, if you get certified for MCTS: SQL Server 2005, it means an entry-level certification. In other words, that form of certification is just the beginning, as it is the first of three certifications needed to achieve the MCITP: Database Administrator or Database Developer designation. The first exam you will have to write in the row of exams is not mean feat, and it can be quite tedious for someone who is new to the thing. You will require a lot of study and other external help to plough through. Once you pass the exam, you will be rewarded with the next step. Some people might ask that after you have passed, whether this alone is enough to start earning money big-time? Well, you will of course need work experience, but you sure can make a leap for it! Without the experience, it might take you some more years to get to the six-figure income you desire, but you will surely make it.

Vocational schools are yet another way you can get the required knowledge and experience. Here you can also show your diligence to learning the tools of the trade. The problem with this course of action is that there are more unaccredited vocational schools that there are accredited ones.

You can also make use of the college option, of course. This is the most conventional and most popular of the methods used for this. Of course it will take the usual four years, and you will also come out with the traditional degrees – masters, doctorate, and PhD – it is well worth it. The problem with this too is the time constraint and the unhidden fact that it can be quite expensive without scholarships and grants.
